In the late 1950s and the mid-1960s, social revolutions in Asia and Latin America, anti-colonialist struggle in Africa, and the Civil Rights movement in the United States were global issues. Influenced by these issues, the enlightened Ethiopian intelligentsia embarked on an arduous struggle to bring about Change in the country. The goals were social justice, economic equality, and democracy. The goals were denied, however, by heinous atrocities of the Red Terror. Despite the repression, the struggle continued and ultimately ousted the Derg (military government). Sadly, it was replaced by another Caesar, the brutal ethnocentric Tigray Liberation Front (TPLF). The new Caesar dismembered the country and provoked violence among ethnic groups.Caesar and Revolution (Kiesar ena Abyot) is a depiction of these attempts at revolution and more. It is a collection of poems that portray the agony and the disappointment of the generation whose vision and idealism were shattered by mass murder and ethnic violence. Caesar and Revolution (kiesar ena Abyot) Is also a commemoration of the martyrs who gave their lives and sacrificed their souls for economic equality, social justice, and democracy. Caesar and Revolution (Kiesar ena abyot ) is, in a sense, a memoir of the author.
