Still the best

Donna Rice Hughes' "Kids Online" is still the best guidebook available to parents concerned to protect their children online. And her recent live demo on the "Oprah" show left no doubt - in the minds of the studio audience, Ms. Winfrey, and this reviewer - that parents still have reason for prudent concern.

Kids Online: Protecting Your Children in Cyberspace

An excellent guide for parents that displays a firm grasp of the complex technological, social, and legal issues involved. At the same time, Ms. Rice-Hughes is able to translate this information in a way that parents unfamiliar with technology can easily understand. Kids Online is packed with useful information and advice. No parent should let his or her child go on on-line without reading this book.

Even I can understand this book!

For those of us who are not too computer savy, but want our kids to experience the best, not the worst of what the internet has to offer, Rice's book is the perfect guide. Easy to understand terminology and practical solutions to potential problems, make her book a tool I can use!

a "must-read" for any parent!

An Excellent Resource For Online Child Safety Information!

Surfing the "Net" has become a common occurrence for many children today. They receive plenty of exposure to the Internet at public schools, libraries, and at home. Their lives are being shaped by it more and more with each passing day. Unfortunately there are many unscrupulous people online today that specifically target them with sexual perversion and activity in mind.      Donna Rice Hughes and Pamela T. Campbell have written Kids Online to offer parents the help they need to keep their kids safe online while at the same time allowing them to make productive use of what the Internet has to offer. Hughes, herself involved in scandalous activity years ago with a failed presidential candidate, has come full circle in her relationship with God and has become a lightning rod for online child safety. An advocate for responsible use of the Internet and online services for educational purposes, she has had enough with what is taking place online to ensnare the hearts and minds of unsuspecting children.      This online "survival" guide offers a generous scope of instruction for parents and their children. The authors clearly point out the benefits as well as the risks presented by going online. They provide parents with penetrating questions and advice according to child age, cite specific incidents, and encourage them to take more active roles in the development of their children at home and in the community. Parents will appreciate the important instructions for children presented in the form of "Top Ten Things to Tell Your Child." This commonsense list of online precautions will go a long way to protect them.      Readers are provided with a variety of valuable instruction such as basic computer operation, how to safely surf the Internet, using e-mail, the newsgroups, listservs, search engines, bookmarking, downloading and printing information, special filtering programs, and other options that will provide a safer approach to surviving online. Consider putting to use certain house rules, push for legislation and enforcement of current obscenity laws, and join community organizations that can make a difference in the raising of children. This book will show readers how!      This book offers a prescription for one of the most dangerous social ills that exist online today under the banner of protected free speech. Children are not mature enough to make decisions on their own. They require the serious involvement of parents and other community leaders to deal with sexual predators. This book is an excellent source for child safety information. It is highly recommended for parents and others involved with the caring for children. It's about time all of us do. Start today!
