"Why?" If you haven't heard that lately, you do not have a small child in your home. A child's imagination is a world filled with openness and wonder. Children generally want to just know things. When they have trepidation in their life, they naturally inquire. From separation anxiety to natural curiosity, when the door closes at nap time and a child has a few minutes before nodding off to that peaceful time of a parent's day, they want to make sure you are not playing their favorite game or running to the neighbor's house for a cup of sugar. Kid-napping takes a young child through the process of understanding the problem (what does Mom do when I have to take a nap?) through the house to the bed, where her mom is also taking a nap. The book is seen through the eyes of a three-year-old girl but is not gender-specific. Kid-napping, along with other books in the Micro-Mystery Series, taps into the "struggles" that a child may encounter in their daily living, like separation, permanent loss of comfortable things (a pacifier), gaining a new sibling, and learning to share. The process that "Gracie" goes through to discover where her mother goes when she is required to take a nap is a map for children to seek answers to those questions that keep them up at nap time.
