In 2020, nearly 46,000 people in the United States took their own lives. And each year, an untold number of others-perhaps millions-think about committing suicide. In my early 20s, I was among them as I struggled with addiction and other challenges. Yet I knew that my real desire was not to end my life, but to stop the pain I was experiencing. I realized that my routine was making me deeply unhappy, so I asked myself, "What am I going to do about it?" Throwing up my arms in desperation, I finally surrendered to the fact that I needed help. So began my recovery from depression. I had to make some major changes in my life, but after years of therapy, medication, and great books that illuminated the path before me, I began to notice positive changes on the outside, and a growing sense of happiness within. In this autobiography, I share my personal story of recovery, along with the concrete steps I needed to take in order to change and flourish. My prayer is that my experience and insights will provide hope and strength to those struggling with depression. --
