Ginny had a happy childhood in the 1860's on the peaceful farm near Louisville, Kentucky. It was a thriving farm with many horses, goats, pigs, chickens and cows. She loved feeding and talking to the farm animals, and riding her favorite horse Lightening through the green meadows surrounded by wild flowers. Then one day, in 1862, the soldiers came. Several forts were built around Louisville. This was when the hardships began, and The Civil War changed Ginny's life forever as she began to live in the shadow of danger.
