APOOO Rating: 3.5 Upon first glance of the cover, one would think they would read a story about a woman trying to keep up with the times but that is not the case at all. Keeping Up With the Joneses is about Risa James, a successful professional who has solely focused on her career and has all but given two thoughts to her love life. Almost at age forty, Risa feels the ever-growing need of wanting a man in her life. When she meets Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome, ex-football player turned successful businessman, J.D. Jones, things between the two move rather quickly, in a positive direction. J.D. Jones wants someone special to settle down with and to share in his successes. He sees the happiness his best friend experiences with his wife, J.D.'s sister, and he wants that for himself. Upon first glimpsing Risa James, J.D. phones his girlfriend and quickly ends their courtship. J.D. feels that he has found "the one." But will J.D.'s sisters, who were very fond of J.D.'s previous girlfriend, welcome Risa into their loving family or will Risa fall short of everyone's, including J.D.'s and his family's, expectations and end up alone? Keeping Up With the Joneses by P.R. Hawkins smoothly pulls you in with the promise of an interesting story. When I first began reading this story, I was thoroughly impressed and excited about what I was seeing. Then I was literally thrown for a loop towards the middle of the story. I was so shocked at J.D.'s accusations that I could only stare at the book for a moment before I continued on. If the author was looking for a way to place readers in a state of shock and awe, so to speak, Hawkins definitely succeeds! While I enjoyed reading this book, it seemed to get too detailed at certain points disrupting the flow of the overall story. All in all, Keeping Up With the Joneses is a pretty good read, and one that I do recommend to readers. Reviewed by Chantay W. APOOO BookClub
Able to Keep Up

Ex-pro football player JD Jones was on time for his interview with Risa James. Not only running late for the interview but having JD's Jag towed for being in her parking spot, Risa was instantly attracted to him as he to her. In a matter of weeks, the two begin a hot and heavy courtship, but Risa has not met JD's five overprotective sisters, mother and father. This was a book that was hard for me to put down until I finished. The characters being in their late thirties made it a most enjoyable read for me. I am hoping Ms Hawkins has more in store for the Joneses.
