Avery Kent is a seventeen-year-old, misanthropic Senior who refuses to operate by the status quo in her home city of Reedsport, Oregon. With a cantankerous mindset, Avery quickly gains the animosity of her history teacher and Group Therapy counselor who find her impulsive behavior selfish, curt, and problematic. Worsening her notoriety, Avery decides to stop taking the prescription meds that she's taken for years. Now she must bear an onslaught of painful withdrawal symptoms while trying to refine herself. To cope with the stress of this challenge, Avery explores digital riverbanks of stunning virtual reality maps. One map in particular, an expansive estuary map with unlimited swimming fish, soon becomes her favorite. But upon entering the map one day, Avery notices something odd. Another player is in her private server. It seems impossible, yet when the dark, faceless form begins speaking, Avery knows something is definitely awry.
