The novel is a collection of short stories that depicts various topics and adventures. Conviction, faith, greed, the supernatural, and misfortune are some of the themes incorporated into the stories. In most cases, the characters have earned their fate, although, some are innocent victims of circumstances. The underlining theme reflects the penalty of not possessing the security of faith. When one is alone without invisible means of support--meaning faith in God's protection and guidance--the worst result is inevitable. When devastation strikes and all appears lost, faith can restore events and return happiness regardless of what transpired.
