Cheat codes for Acing the SAT

I have 2 boys who are getting ready to take their SAT & ACT tests & an older daughter who already has her BA degree. I selected this book as she told me she thought it was one of the better ones there is out there. After getting it & going through it (overview) with my sons, the following is my opinion.......... This book is really, Really Great! It is concise and interesting to boot! I told my son as we were looking it over together, it isn't like having to do ANOTHER text book, you know, 1 more subject to get through....blah, blah, blah! This book is NOT going to teach you ANOTHER subject like Calc or Physics, so it really does not take a whole school year to finish it! Instead, think of it as the "Cheat Code" Bible to conquering the SAT! The more of the "Code" you know the better score & Better chance at beating everyone else in the SAT "Game" which in turn opens the doors to any college you want & potential scholarships & perks available to you! Here's an example.... Soooo easy! It tells & shows the students ways to give them more time to actually use on the questions by being familiar with the instructions to each section BEFORE you take the test, so you only need to scan them over quickly & begin right away instead of having to read in depth & pause to process the info before beginning! Little tips that are easy to do that will give you an advantage. They not only give good strategy but you will also learn things by just reading over the example problems & the solutions. I especially liked how they gave insight into WHICH problems most likely were the "trick" ones & the strategy to solving them when uncertain as to the correct answer! I was most impressed with the ease of this book. It makes attempting to ace the exams very enjoyable! There are numerous online helps, practice test in the book & on their website, can access them via Kaplan's website with the code printed in it, BUT be aware that it starts a countdown. It will expire in 1 year, but that is sufficient time to conquer this book! ALSO the code is NOT transferable! If you choose this book I think you will be most pleased, as was I! :)

Very helpful study aid

At 700 pages, this is almost as thick as your average yellow pages (anyone remember those?). But those 700 pages are jam packed with useful testing information and tips. The book includes several practice tests, a CD with additional practice tests, as well as online access to even more practice tests. You can even purchase a companion iPhone app if you wish. Much like obtaining a computer certification, familiarization with the test format through repetition is one of the best strategies to help do well. The book is divided into sections that address the three key components of the SAT, writing, critical reading, and math. These components are broken down individually with specific tips and strategies offered. Each chapter summarizes nicely at the end, highlighting the key points from the chapter. My daughter found it useful while studying for her recent SAT.

Intense SAT Prep - Highly Recommended

Kaplan "SAT 2010-2011 Premier" is a complete package for preparing students to take the SAT. My son will be taking the SAT in the Fall and wanted him to be as prepared as possible so we asked my college bound daughter to take an in-depth look at this book\cd. Just for some background, my daughter took the SAT almost recreationally (she actually took it a total of 4 times, 2 in the old format and 2 in the new) and ended up with Math 710, Critical Reading 700, and Writing 680. She also took the Sylvan SAT prep class before the last round to bring up her Reading scores (the engineering college she wanted does not consider the Writing scores at this time). The book is well laid-out and follows a very similar structure to the instructor lead Prep-classes. While working through the exercise in the book would likely be enough to help the average student learn the correct strategies and areas needed to focus on to maximize their test results, Kaplan has also made significant CD and on-line content available. This includes video lessons, sample tests, planners, and guides. This is a real value for the those wanting to maximize their SAT scores. One piece of advice, students should take the SAT early so they can see if they need to take take it again to bring up any unexpected low scores. Highly Recommended! CFH

A great new SAT prep book

I've had two kids go through the SAT's and have two more taking it next year so I've spent a lot of time going through the SAT prep books. Kaplan has a great new addition. It has 10 full length practice tests, (4 in the book and 6 online) and there's also a bonus CD included for offline practice. There are a lot of great looking online features in this book that my older kids didn't get to use. Video mini-lessons that go over the important concepts in each chapter and instructors explaining strategies, giving answers to questions and chats. It's a great value for the money. The SAT prep classes run hundreds of dollars. As long as your child is self motivated enough to do the work, this book is as good or even better.
