Great PCAT book

This is the cheaper alternative to paying for the class. My score increased by 15 points. It is much better than Barron's prep book because the book is divided in to chapters and lessons - not just pretests.

It worked for me

I took the PCAT in October and November. For the 1st exam, I used the Barron book only and got 63% overall. Then I found out about the Kaplan book and studied it for the 2nd exam and got 83% overall this time. Kaplan offered online updates for recent PCAT changes for free. I took them and found them very helpful. On the other hand, Barron didn't even have an update on math & verbal ability changes. The biology material in Kaplan is also much more accurate and relevant. I would recommend the Kaplan book.

A Great Help

This Kaplan book is the most in depth coverage of the material in the PCAT that I found. It has very thorough review sections and covers probably much more than you will really need to know. If you can review with this book and at least survive the questions they ask in the practice tests, then you will do fine on the PCAT. Note: Do not freak out when answering the practice questions, the questions in this book are harder than the ones on the PCAT. Some comments that should be mentioned with this book: This book does not cover calculus, so be sure to review it also. Don't worry so much about chemistry calculations; try to get down the general concepts. Do not expect to learn everything you need from this book, there is too much info in it...instead focus on your weak points and strengthen them. Relax and follow some of the test taking tips given in the book...they really do help. In case you care, my composite score was 99th percentile. :-)

It brought me success...

I just got my score from the PCAT I took in March 2004 and I scored in the 99th percentile. This was the only book that I used to review. I studied it cover-to-cover and took the pre-test seriously. I've been out of school for a bit and hadn't seen chemistry like that in 5 years. Biology on the test was easier than the content in the book. Same with math, but speed is the key to doing well in that section. Good Luck!

Great Study Guide

I thought this book was great. If you know the content and the concepts covered in this book you will do well on the test. The chemistry, biology, verbal, and reading comprehension sections in the Kaplan book are a little harder that the actual test which I thought was helpful to be fully prepared. The math section is pretty accurate to the actual test. I just took the March PCAT and every question on the test was covered in this book. Anyone who says this book isn't helpful probably just wasn't prepared enough! Yes, this book is similar to Kaplan's MCAT book, however the PCAT and the MCAT have similar content in some sections. I used a lot of my old MCAT study materials to prepare for the PCAT. I don't know why other reviewers see this as a problem. The only complaint I have is that there were some typos in the book.
