Incredibly Handy Guide to Have

If you are preparing for the GRE - these workbooks are a must have. The first timer will find a great deal of use from the descriptions provided with regard to test layout, timing, and how questions posed are selected. While even the most seasoned test taker can walk away from this guide with a great deal of practice. This book (as too the Math workbook) has been an invaluable tool during my studies. Kaplan has the perfect degree of experience and expertise to guide you to your aspired-to GRE score. Pick this one up!

Great Book

Great book for GRE verbal part. I have got a really good score on GRE verbal considering I'm a foreigner. Highly recommend!

This book improved my GRE score markedly

I took the GRE a few weeks ago, and I had 2 1/2 weeks to prepare for it, having never seen or heard of the GRE before that time. I panicked and ordered four books. Kaplan's verbal workbook was a great purchase and it improved my verbal score - I got a 610 and I am not even born and raised in the USA. I used Kaplan in conjunction with Barron's Passkey to the GRE Test and The Ultimate Verbal and Vocabulary Builder. Together, the three of them and 6 stacks of flashcards were the reason I did well on the test. The best part of the Kaplan book is the exercises and strategies given to help you through the challenging verbal section. I learned to make an educated guess even if I didn't know what any of the words meant and I got quite a few of them right. It is not so much about roots, prefixes and suffixes, but more about using the word in context with the other words and ruling out possibilities that are impossible. I strongly recommend making this book part of your GRE study regimen. I did one of each group of exercies per day. For reference, I studied on average 12 hours a day for two straight weeks. This book is worth your money and MUCH better than anything published by ETS which proved useless to me.

Fantastic!

I always have trouble with the verbal sections of standardized tests, so I knew I'd need extra help studying for the GRE. This book gave me everything I needed to do well! There's a whole section devoted to analogies, which always trip me up, as well as Sentence Completions and Reading Comprehension. The part that was most useful for me, though, was the great Vocaulary Builder section at the back of the book that provides a word root list, gives tips on grouping words with similar meanings to learn a bunch of words more easily, and even the top words to know for the GRE. Overall, I think it's the best book out there!
