A great read!

A very original story and cleverly written. I look forward the the sequel! (In response to a previous review): I have read this book several times already, looking for these "biblical references," and with very little luck. The stories in Mr. Christian's book are, if anything, of a polytheistic sort, but it is fitting for the situations within the texts. Also, I don't think Mr. Christian portrays the race of Men as a good sort, as does the Bible and the Silmarillion. He seems to stress their disadvantages and really focuses on the evil they radiate into the World. As for the Alphabet, Mr. Christian's runes are entirely original. There is nothing similar to that of Mr. Tolkien's. The Sindarin runes of Middle Earth are more elegant and "fiery" so to speak. The runes within the Kalae en Laross are more so blocky like that of Norse runes which, as one may understand, are not a Tolkien invention. This declaration that the names are "made to confuse" is completely absurd. I have seen nothing of the sort. Mr. Christian has provided a sufficient pronunciation guide towards the end of the book and has even placed umlauts and accents for proper pronunciation. "These marks are only seen in a dictionary"? Well, I recommend exploring a bit outside one's own country. Nearly every country in Europe uses such "random accent marks" as they have been called. The Germans use the umlauts, the French and Spanish use the accents. Even the Irish use both the accents and the umlauts in their Gaelic tongues. I strongly feel this book close to my heart and it is a very fine read if you are able to think outside the box a little. I love the story and feel it deserves much higher than idle criticisms.

Page for page the best read I've had for a long while

In my opinion, Aaron Christian is one of the great new up and coming authors of the year. From the start this book will keep you on the edge of your seat. It includes a fabulous cast of characters including the stealthy Nydler and Bannondyr the dwarven lord. Personally, Nydler reminds me greatly of myself... In any case, if you only buy one fantasy book this year, buy this one. You won't be dissapointed.
