This volume offers a close look at the work of German neo-expressionist pioneer Karl Horst H dicke. It presents sixty full-color reproductions of his paintings and sculptures, along with essays by art historians tracing his career and analyzing his work and its context. H dicke came to Berlin at age twenty to study at the Hochschule der K nste, and in 1964 he founded an influential artists' exhibition space, Gro g rschen 35. After a sojourn in America, he returned to Germany and began experimenting with plastic processes and, coming full circle, started teaching at the Hochschule der K nste. His influence can still be seen today--he's considered the driving force behind the neo-expressionism of the 1980s, and artists are still wrestling with his works and ideas. This catalog accompanies a substantial, career-spanning show at the Berlinische Galerie, drawn largely from the gallery's own substantial collection of H dicke's work.
