It's official: you have just run out of excuses for saying: "Gee we're bored...there's nothing to do around here!" At least it will be official once you run out (or order online) and get "Just Family Nights." Because this book has something to do darn near every single night of the year (The book blurb claims 60; I suspect they sneaked in some extras. I have to admit: I didn't read every night but I'm willing to bet you run out of nights before the book runs out of idea-starters). The approach is just directive enough to give your family members a jump-start on a family activity, yet the emphasis is definitely on creativity. The "nights" are arranged chronologically and each one was developed by a different author. The editor brings them all together in a common format and with a unifying style -- no mean feat and one that will be appreciated by anyone who has struggled to read a compilation from diverse authors. For those who wish to bring a spiritual tone to their activities, this book is imbued with plenty of opportunities to keep the faith. Luckily, the authors do not force their perspective on the reader--all denominations (as well as non-denominations) will feel comfortable with the down to earth feel of this book. You can follow it night to night, season to season or just pick it up some rainy Saturday when the kids are complaining that you keep beating them at Monopoly. One almost wishes that the authors/editor would let loose with a non-"PC" recipe or song, but you will have to admit, once you have this treasure trove on your kitchen table, this is almost more fun than you can handle.
