"Just a Thin Slice" is a selective account of a family history covering nearly 400 years. The intent is to characterize the life and times of several generations for the sake of young members of the family, as well as any others who may find the account and the author's reflections to be a useful or edifying word. The record is redacted from the true stories, input and reflections of family members and several others who have come alongside the author and his father over time. It is written to the young daughters of the author's niece, trusting that the input may serve as a voice of encouragement as they grow in their understanding of our world and toward an acceptance of the challenges that they are likely to face during their lifetime. This third edition reflects further research and detail that will coordinate with a follow-up book: "A Bird's Eye View: Reflections on Our Shared Family History."
