A Worthy Effort

This is a very good book to add to one's personal martial arts library if you are interested in the art of the late martial arts legend Bruce Lee.One look at the action in the photos, and it becomes obvious that Mr. Davis has done the work, and put in the time. This book would probably be especially useful to someone who wasn't familiar with JFJKD (which is the term that Mr. Lee's own daughter coined for the body of her father's life's work in the martial arts) but was curious about it. In this book, Mr. Davis provides a clear-cut, glimpse into how some of the fundamental aspects of the art of JFJKD look, and how they function.Overall, this is a fine effort, and definitely worth checking out.

If you're looking for Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do, this is the book

Do you want to learn ballet? Are you interested in mud wrestling? Do you want to learn how to fight with chopsticks? If so, then please don't read this book.Do you actually want to learn how to defend yourself in the street? Are you interested in learning the principles behind Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do and how to apply them? Does the idea of cutting off an opponents attack at the earliest possible moment while simultaneously striking him with an attack of your own sound appealing? Then by all means get this book! This is one of the best books I've read on actually learning and using JKD since the "Bruce Lee Fighting Method" series. The first half of the book lays a strong foundation on the principles behind JKD as well as detailed explanations on how to develop the tools needed to apply those priciples. The second half of the book gives a series of "street encounters" that shows how to put those tools and priciples to work against single and multiple opponents who are unarmed or armed. This is the same teaching technique used in the Bruce Lee Fighting Method series book "street self defense". The book is excellent and it should be on the bookshelf of any serious JKD practictioner.

Excellent overview of Bruce Lee's system

First let me state that I am not a Jun Fan / JKD teacher. I have no interest in the Name calling that goes on within that group. I have read some of the reviews of this book, and can tell that the negative comments about this book are from factions within the JKD crowd that are just trying to damage the sale of Mr. Davis's book. I have no horse in this race. I am not a student of Mr. Davis, or any other Jun Fan/JKD instructor or organization. I am an instructor in Bruce Lee's original system, Wing Chun Kung Fu. I teach under the lineage of Grandmaster Ip Ching, the son of Bruce Lee's only real teacher, Grandmaster Ip Man. My background in the arts goes back 35+ years. I have read many books on Bruce Lee's fighting art. This is by far the best. Mr. Davis has a very good understanding of Bruce Lee's original art, Wing Chun. And it shows in his writing. This is a must read for anyone interested in Bruce Lee's system. Don't let the unprofessional actions of those who are in opposition to Mr. Davis keep you from owning this book. Anyone Serious about JF/JKD should read this book

Scientific Streetfighting is probably the best JF/JKD book i have ever read, it gives a very detailed overview of the most important aspects of JF/JKD, and is a worthwhile read for anyone Original or concepts.The book covers all of the important areas of JF/JKD with an exellent amount of detail in each section, this book aims to answer all of the questions a practitioner may have about the subject area, many books in the past have left me with a lot of unanswered questions but i have to say i was totally satisfied with all of the information, and how it was presented.I was very impressed with the way the author could explain all facets of the books content in simple easyily understood terms, but still managed to give a very in-depth view point.Scientific Streetfighting is one of those books that you could read time and time again althought i have had the book for a good while, each time i go back and re-read parts i learn something new. And this is a sign of a really great book by a very talented author.As the title of this review suggests anyone serious about training in Bruce Lee's Art of JKD be it Original or Concepts should read this book.Thanks.

A good JKD Book

This book, with its tons of photos, accompanied by clear, accurate text, perfectly illustrate the step by step movements of Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do. The layout of the book is very good, and you can see that care was taken in the making of this product. Sifu Lamar M. Davis shares a wealth of knowledge about such topics such as the Bai-jong, Trapping, and the many other principles inherent to Jeet Kune Do. BIG Sean Madigan
