For two weeks every winter, a rarefied group of ski jumpers travel throughout four states and five jumps in the Midwest to compete on a tour modeled after the distinguished Four Hills Tournament in Europe. Unlike Europe, however, these hills are sketchy, unpredictable and intimidating. The flat midwest landscape necessitates erecting large towers from which the brave few launch themselves to the roar of jubilant, winter-loving crowds.
