Recycled into yet another psychiatric clinic, seventeen-year-old Lisa Mia intends to make this trip her very last. She devises a plan to take her life-for the last time. Her mission unfolds as she leverages a broken mental healthcare system and slips undetected into the adult unit where there are fewer rules and more opportunity to end it all. Everything lines up to execute her plan, until Rob happens. An empathetic, fearless, brilliant patient who cleverly offers Lisa a deal- to join him in a pact to survive and live for one another. Where psychiatrists, counselors, nurses, and medications have all failed to solace Lisa, can Rob's love and determination penetrate her benumbed heart? More importantly, can he change the present trajectory of her life in time to save it?
In this masterfully written memoir, I was captivated by the character's plight and felt present with every unfolding scene. This was so beautifully written and took my mind into the minds of the many who suffer from mental illness like Lisa, Rob, Joe and Sucide Guy and other characters; definitely a teaching tool as I felt like I learned so much about resilience, survival and triumph related to the human experience and human mind in this read. Cannot wait for the sequel.
