Can you imagine repeating the same thing over and over again? The people of the era of the Judges didn't have to."In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes." Judges 21:25 ESV"Right in his own eyes," as you might expect, did not equal "Right in God's eyes." The people created their own Groundhog Day of apostasy. They would reject the Word of God and descend into sin. Their enemies would then attack. They didn't much care for that, so they would call out to God to help them. Amazingly, he would answer and send them a deliverer, a judge, who would take on that foe. Things would go well for awhile, but then, as the threat dissipated, they would return to chasing after idols and living selfishly. This is sometimes called Israel's cycle of apostasy, and that is certainly true. From God's perspective, however, it is a cycle of grace. He remains faithful to His people even when they are not faithful to him. And He does it over and over again.Sound familiar?Judges is a particularly relevant book for teens.
