jQuery is a popular JavaScript library that simplifies event handling, animating, and Ajax interactions for rapid web development. Many companies are using jQuery including: Amazon, Google, Twitter,... This description may be from another edition of this product.
With a million tutorials online touting"A Million and One Ways to do Whatever in Jquery" or "75 Cool Jquery Plug-ins to do whatever" I wanted a book that would give me a solid foundation in the framework, with good examples and clear explanations. Easy to follow and with functional, practical segments, all I had to do was just follow instructions and in no time was versed in practical and correct applications of Jquery. I would highly recommend this for designers, beginners and those seeking a quick and easy Jquery reference. It really compliments the quickly growing collection of articles and resources on the web.
Great book for beginners!

This book is an excellent starter book for those looking to learn jQuery! I'm hooked - I've been a web designer for a couple of years now and I've been looking/waiting for something like jQuery to come along. As it takes some commonly used JavaScript functions, and breaks them down to make them VERY easy to use + cross browser compliant! This book goes from example to example - just try each one, see it work. Simple, and a great way to get started. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars was due to a couple of code typos on pages 91: (alert(click event unbound'); $('#target').unBind('click', \ clicker); should read (alert('click event unbound'); $('#target').unBind('click', clicker); (missing ' before click event and a unnecessary \ ) and on page 109 there is a missing ; which should follow the display: none text - But that's all I've found so far and I'm 85% done with the book. It's not for someone completely new to web languages - you have to learn your HTML, CSS and some JavaScript first - but a nice thing to learn and add to your skills and ad cool animated content without having to be a JavaScript genius

Visual QuickStart books rock! I very much enjoyed this book. I worked through every example in the book in a long weekend. (I'm determined to learn JQuery). It is an easy read. You do not get lost in deep analysis or discussions on the topic being covered. Each page and facing page covers a JQuery method or command with a very simple code example of how to use it. I'm a seasoned programmer and I've done a little work in JQuery, but mostly it was copy/paste code from some example or following instructions in a plugin for JQuery. I needed a book that would start me at square one and get me to a more comfortable level using JQuery. This book did just that. I learn best when I see an example used in a short and simple bit of example code. Most "beginning" books tend to give you examples of how to use the topic being discussed inside a bit of code that is one or two pages long and hard to interpret. This book used short and sweet examples that only focused on what the topic was for that page. My only criticism would be that it did not explain more about some of the topics covered. i.e.: callback functions could use a bit more explanation. That is okay however, because with the knowledge I have from this book, I feel I will better understand the more advanced jquery books I have. Good job!!
