Olu moves to London for a better life after spending some fruitless post-graduate years in Lagos, Nigeria. The story reveals his struggles to settle down in a new environment and find a better means of livelihood. He faces racist and classist issues as he finds himself classed as a black man in The United Kingdom doing everything possible to survive. He is also faced with the unending challenge of constantly sending money to his people in Nigeria regardless of how he was faring in The UK. Our protagonist finally starts a family after a long spell of ill-fated relationships of which one gave him a son. As a family man, he comes under financial pressure to keep his nuclear family afloat amidst the high cost of living, bills, and taxes. Olu now questions if this really is 'a better life'....
