Great book for Christians of all ages

I just finished reading the book "Joyful Noise" by Ed Christian. It was delightful, presenting a reasoned and Biblically-supported philosophy of music. I am so thankful someone of clear thinking and obviously dedicated to God and the spiritual growth of His people took on this subject. Christian differentiates between "my" music and "our" music, an important distinction as one considers the issue of unity in the church. His responses to statements in The Christian & Rock Music were right on target. He offers suggestions for how our music and worship can both reflect the times and be more spiritually effective. The Christian's music should be vibrant and joyful, whatever the style! I highly recommend this book to those seeking a level-headed, Biblical (and humorous!) approach to music in their lives and their churches.

Emphasis on SENSIBLE!

There are a LOT of books around about Christian music, but very few that are really spiritually helpful and worth reading. This book is AMONG THE BEST, and if you really don't know what to make of Contemporary Christian Music, whether it is of God or from the other side, this is the BEST one to start with. "Joyful Noise" looks at the arguments made against popular music over the past fifty years and demolishes the weak ones. However, it also maintains a high standard for both kids and adults. It calls for honesty and for using biblical criteria for judging both music and lyrics. It shows that any kind of music, even classical music, can lead people away from a walk with God, but that many kinds, given the right lyrics, can help people keep on walking with God. Time after time as I read "Joyful Noise," arguments I've long used to support the music I like or to put down music I don't like were shown to be weak, and I found that I ended up with a much stronger basis for making decisions about music. There's some music I used to love that I'm not going to listen to anymore. There's some music I used to put down that may be okay for some people, even though I don't like the style. This book was a real blessing to me, and I felt that the author was truly led by the Holy Spirit in his thinking and writing.
