The third volume showcasing over 200 poems - unique word-pictures - by the Angelean lyric poet Alan Lindgren (the first is "By the Sunset theres a Door" (2002), the second "Sun, Sparrow, and Star" (2009)), this is a selection of 441 poems: 341 from his finest previously-published work, plus 100 poems published for the first time. His volume "The Sun Sings: Word-Pictures 1997" (Mercury Press: Chestnut Ridge, NY, 1999) appears here in its entirety. Included are "Alan Lindgrens Poetry" by the late Dutch historian, educator, anthroposophist and author Hans Peter van Manen, Ph.D. (1931-2009). Other insights into Lindgrens poetry by Van Manen and others are included in key places, and the poems appear chronologically, with the composition dates and locations, so that readers may follow the development of the poet throughout his career in the poems themselves. They are lyric songs, lyric elegies, free verse, ballads and sonnets. The ballads number 10; there are 13 sonnets. 60 of the poems are in German. Lindgrens poetry is original, interesting, diverse, human, spiritual, genuinely Christian, beautiful, substantial and often profound. The Sun and the seasons of the natural and the Christian year are central and frequent themes of the poetry. "Journeying with the Sun / A Poetry Chronology by Alan Lindgren" is a treasure-trove of poems and would make a suitable gift for friends and loved ones.
