This is a great book for anyone looking to learn more about how to make the most of their daily Bible readings. It is also a wonderful resource for Bible literate individuals who need a model of how to make their knowledge accessible. The first chapter is not very appealing because it gets into the technical aspects of Bible translations. It's not a difficult read, it's just not exciting; luckily it is only 4-5 pages, but it is important information if the reader does not know how the Bible is structured. But after that, the author pulls out daily examples that people can relate to. These examples help people understand the ways in which we should approach the Bible. It helps people understand how the Bible is relevant for their lives. For each section and advice that the author gives, he provides biblical passages and ways of reading them so that we make the most of the Bible. The author focuses only on the New Testament. This can be a drawback, but I think is very helpful because most people new to the Bible find it easier to relate to the New Testament. As a book for beginners, I think it was a very wise choice. His interpretations are very pastoral, for this reason I recommend the book to Christians who work with people facing a crisis (hospital chaplains, counselors, social workers, etc...). It will help people understand what are appropriate principles for interpreting the Bible and how the message has often been distorted. It provides a clear guide for explaining to others how God is portrayed in the Bible and how God is present in their lives. It is a book that is deeply spiritual and accessible to everyone. It is written for Catholics but can easily be for mainstream Protestants (Lutherans, Episcopalians, Methodists, Presbyterian, Baptists, etc...). At 114 pages, the book is not too time consuming. It can easily be read more than once in order for the ideas to sink in deeper with the reader but everything will be easily understood with the first read. It is a book that deals concretely with biblical passages and shows the reader how to approach them; there are very few books on how to pray with the Bible, if any, that provide concrete examples as good as this book. I highly reccomend this book to those who wish to read the Bible more faithfully and for those who minister to others in Bible study groups or who have faced questions about God in moments of crisis.
