The Journey of the Universe expands Darwin's evolution through natural selection to encompass the entire universe from the moment of its birth to thousands of years into the future. The premise is that evolution progresses in levels, each beginning with simplicity and growing in complexity. At each level, matter combines, grows, and develops emergent qualities. Once proving itself strong enough to survive in its environment through natural selection, and capable of itself combining, it becomes the next level of matter.
The Journey will take the reader through eight levels of evolution, starting with the first elementary particles, which combine to produce Level Two, which then combine to produce Level Three, which are the subatomic particles we are familiar with today. Once identifying the Combination and Growth Imperative (the CAGI) that is driving cosmic evolution, the Journey continues through the levels of Atoms, Cells, and Organisms, demonstrating how each level develops its own emergent qualities that are necessary for the development of the next Level.
The story continues, explaining how humans will evolve and someday combine to produce the Seventh Level, and how that level will evolve and someday combine to produce the Eighth Level. Now, thousands of years into the future, the author speculates on where all of this evolution will be taking us, revealing the bigger picture of what the pure energy of the universe is truly capable of producing.
So, what if the complex, subatomic particles we know today did not inexplicably pop into existence at the Big Bang as surmised, but instead evolved through natural selection from smaller, elementary particles?
