Lien is a half-American half-Vietnamese girl who lives with a privileged family in Can Tho. Her life turns to chaos when the Communists invade South Vietnam, forcing Lien to move back to her birth mother and family she feels no connection with. She is happy to reunite with her mother, but sadly her step father causes even more mayhem in her life. Desperate to escape the situation, Lien agrees to marry at a young age hoping to find a safe haven. Little does she know what trouble lies ahead. Eventually, Lien's mother reveals her real father is an American officer, her quest to go to America begins. What will happen on her journey? Does she make it to America?
