Journal of the Westbrae Literary Group, Issue 3, Fall 2025

This third issue brings together poems, art, essays, and prose that pull at us from the inside out.

Expression often requests introspection. But it's the artist's or writer's craft-their gift-that reaches into us and compels that look within. Gina Selvera's art in this issue mesmerizes through textures and depths that unfold narrative, longing, and a sense stimulation that reverberates. David Lawton's poetry mixes masterful form and context with imagery that beautifully stains us like wood, we coming its patina. Unib Awan's piece poignantly reflects on itself as a palindrome. Returning from our inaugural issue, Liliana Hazel Navelgas, like few others, bites through pretention and, like concrete, hard lays us bare to ourselves less ego in graceful lyricism. And Terry Baker, in poetry with a structure that builds right-now images of our everyday working selves finds meaning within our (too) late-stage capitalism.

The prose in this issue dreams us into ourselves. Dephy's opening to his forthcoming novella Gemini Touch floats on rays bent through antique windows. As do Danielle Ellis's wickies transpose self to selfless. Katja Bartholmess returns too from our first issue, this time with parts of the diary she kept as Los Angeles burned, unimaginably so, earlier this year. Lastly, Alisah Westerman binds narrative through generations and relations, showing it has genetic depth.

Westbrae authors and contributors care much about meaning and expression and how they reveal us.
