Amazing book and tale

Before I read this story about Johnathon...Ms. Burroughs performed this story for our teaching staff during an inservice day. I have never been so captivated by another performer in my life. She portrayed Johnathon and herself in this performance. This story and her ability to effectively show off the trials and tribulations of this child didn't leave a dry eye in the audience. Though her performance brought out strong emotions of sympathy, sadness and admiration, I couldn't help but feel drawn to this character even more after reading the story on paper. You really need to give this story a chance, it will tug at your heartstrings and never let go!

A Must Read for all New Teachers

I have been an educator for 20 years. I have worked with young people and adults, and have been an advocate for teacher education for over 10 years. I have not ever read a book that touched my heart to the extent that Johnathon did.....this book went beyond teaching well, this book insisted on teaching compassionately and consciously. I thank my daughter in law, who lives near Jo Ann Burroughs, and who is an educator herself, for blessing me with this unique and meaningful resource. I now pass it on to all of my students at a local Community College who are intent on becoming a "teacher". It is definitely a must read for would-be teachers. Thank you.

While reading Johnathan, I felt that I was there going through the experiences of both the teacher and Johnathan. When I "get lost" in a book and have to remember where I am when I get finished, that to me is a the sign of a great book! I could not put it down. It made me laugh and cry and at the end I felt like I was saying goodbye to some dear friends. I highly recommend "Johnathan".

It is also a must read for anyone who enjoys reading a book that propels him or her to each end of the emotional spectrum. You will laugh and you will cry. You will shed tears of sadness and of joy. Jo Ann Burroughs did a masterful job of writing an emotion-inducing work on one of the most important topics of our day - the education of our children and teachers.
