What would your life look like if you only described what you did on all your birthdays? Interesting! I have done that with John Wesley, looking at what he wrote about on his birthday every year in his Journal. No birthday cake. No candles. But lots of horse rides, sermons inside and outside, death and drama, faith and doubt, friends and enemies - and odd places in England, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, the United States, and the Netherlands. He had a sharp eye for quirky scientific phenomena and diseases, and a sarcastic capacity to write one-line evaluations of popular books! He was a terrible horseman who managed to mostly stay on his horse for thousands upon thousands of kilometers. But most of all, he wanted everybody to wake up and share the same life-shattering and life-making faith that he himself had found. This is a good introduction to this fascinating little man's life. I have illustrated it with marginal sketches from my study notes and diaries. Enjoy the ride!
