A Friendly Introduction

John Wesley for the 21st Century offers insights into contemporary living by looking at some of the problems of the 18th century--and their solutions. For example, health care was a problem because doctors were scarce. According to author John Gooch, John Wesley saw the need and wrote a basic medical text to train his preachers to care for the sick--and maybe churches could establish health clinics today. Or in a time when people were hurting financially and needed short-term loans to tide them over, Wesley's movement provided basic small loans--and maybe churches could think in terms of micro-loans today to those in need. Not just social ills, but other insights into contemporary life matters. A nice book for discussion in a group!
