Doherty Mining Company learn about the silver there, and Mr. Doherty decides he wants their land. He offered the Tilis family the opportunity to buy their land, but Father refused to sell. After father refused, Mr. Doherty sends company men to make threats and try to intimidate our family. It does not work, so one night the company attacks, killing everyone but John.
John survives..., but his family is gone. This is the emotional turning point after John buries his family when he swears revenge. John learns the company has done this before, so John starts to fight, track and survive when he meets Randy Bergan, whose family was killed as well and their land taken by the Doherty Mining Company.
