Who was this man called by God, John the Baptist? A Levitical priest unlike any other. He did not wear priestly garb, and eat at the best places that the Israelites had to offer in Jerusalem, but he wore camel's skins and ate locust with wild honey. He would prepare the nation of Israel by baptizing (washing) them with the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins to prepare them to become that kingdom of priests that God had said they would be in Exodus 19:5 & 6.
