John Jacob Mease: A Historical Perspective of His Life

John Jacob Mease lived during a period of great historical importance for the United States. The early nineteenth century through the early twentieth century was a time of great westward expansion, evolving political and religious ideas, and a chance to gain wealth. John Jacob Mease not only lived during this time frame, he was actually personally involved in these events. During his life time, he traveled from the eastern to the western areas of our country and back to the Midwest experiencing these developments in the formation of our expanding country. John Jacob Mease was born on November 4, 1836, in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, the son of Christian Joseph and Elizabeth Eby Mease.
