When we lose a loved one, especially a parent or grandparent, it is hard to process our feelings. It is even harder to explain it to a child. Jisselle the Mermaid was written with the intent to help my children understand and deal with the loss of their great-grandmother and with the hope that it may help other children and their parents when they experience a similar loss.
Jisselle The Mermaid really misses her sick great-grandmother. When she is finally allowed to visit, she is saddened at what she finds. However, the promise of her great-grandmother's special gift teaches Jisselle that loved ones never really leave us.
