Priceless Lessons

The Renaissance philosopher Sir Thomas Browne wrote the "Life is the shadow of death, and light is the shadow of God." This beautifully written, short but incredibly rich book about the author's visits with a dying missionary priest casts revealing and ultimately glowing light on the subjects of terminal illness, suffering, death, and--most important--living life to its fullest. The priest, Father Jim, approaches his terminal cancer with the same honesty and courage with which he earlier conquered his alcoholism. His death has more than dignity; it has Grace. This is the best book I have ever seen on the subjects of addiction and dying. Both carry stigmas in our society; if any book can help remove them, this this the one. Meanwhile, it will not fail to raise the reader's spirit!
