ISBN 0689852940 - If you're anything like me, you might be fooled by the cover - there's snow, I see Christmas-y trees... I'm thinking this is a suitable winter-themed book. I'm thinking wrong, however. It's summer in Retroville. Jimmy and his friends are hot! The sun is blazing down and they've just about had enough of the heat, so when Carl puts on sunblock, Jimmy gets an idea. Increasing the strength of Carl's sunblock by 900x, Jimmy cools the entire town. In fact, it's now so cool that it's snowing and, soon, it's the dawn of the Second Ice Age! Jimmy has to work quickly to undo this one and Carl, again, gives him the answer. When Carl explains his sunburn by saying that he must have sweated off the sunblock, Jimmy realizes that sweat ought to do the trick. Sheen and Carl sweat, Jimmy collects it and they fire it at the sun, returning Retroville to summer weather. First, I admit to confusion. It's summer but the boys go to school. Jimmy's a genius, so it's not summer school... so that confused me. And, for the parents who just don't like gross stuff, this one is not for you. Collecting sweat? Ew. But for those who don't mind yucky stuff, and for fans of Jimmy Neutron in particular, this is a good read. Marked "Ready to Read, Level 2 (Reading Independently)" and "Ages 5-7", Jimmy on Ice is fairly simple for young readers and fun enough to keep them interested. Adam Beechen, the author, writes a typical Jimmy Neutron tale and illustrator Mark Marderosian's work is fantastic and fun with just enough detail to amuse any reader. The TV show is entertaining but the best part of it is using it to get your kid reading. - AnnaLovesBooks
