In early nineteen hundred, Jim as a young boy, set out to see the Pacific Ocean. He rode in rail cars on trains with other hobos, often stopping at the hobo camps along the way. After reaching the Pacific, he had a chance to work his way to Australia on an oil tanker as a cabin boy and cooks helper. Jim traveled the world, grew into a man while working on ships, both steam and sail. He joined the Army and fought the Morro tribes in the Philippines and then fought in World War I, in France. After the war, he built track for the railroads in the west.
