Jesus, Why and How? is my response to conversations I have had with Christians and non-Christians about Jesus. The idea to write arose from a survey I have done with college students in the United States. Here are the questions. Describe your spiritual background. What was it like? Do you believe in God? If so, what is He like? What do you believe is mankind's greatest problem? What do you believe is the solution to mankind's greatest problem? What do you think happens after we die? Who in your opinion is Jesus Christ? If God asked you, "Why should I let you into Heaven?" What would you say? On a scale of 1-10, how good are you? (1 is evil and 10 is perfect) If you could know God personally, would you like to? In this book, I don't just tell you the answers to these questions, but I explain why the answer is true. This book is not about reciting accepted Christian facts while offering no further explanation in hopes that you will believe them simply because they are written in the Bible. I have an answer, an explanation, for how all those words in the subtitle--Heaven, Sin, Forgiveness, Punishment--relate to each other. My goal in writing was to simply connect three dots for you: a man and woman eating forbidden fruit in an ancient paradise, the promised Messiah, and your life today. You see, people I do surveys with think Adam and Eve's sin was just about them, and it has no concrete link to their own lives. But I can tell you how their deed resulted in God's current negative feelings towards humanity, and I can explain it in a way you have not thought of. My hope is that you will learn to think differently through reading this book, and that you will truly understand why we must follow Jesus. So I have a few more questions to get you started. Have you ever stopped and asked yourself, "What is sin, and why would God punish me for it? If you say, "I sinned when I told a lie yesterday," you've only scratched the surface. It is far more serious than that, and I can tell you why. How do you decide what's a sin and what isn't a sin? How do you define the term "righteousness"? Have you ever wondered why the Bible associates light with life and darkness with death? Do you know why death is a valid punishment for sin? Are you familiar with the definition of eternal life and why it's valid? How do you differentiate a righteous person from an unrighteous person? Why is Heaven permanent, and what problem has to be fixed BEFORE we can go there? Why is Hell an equally permanent place, and why will we end up there by neglecting to do a task while we are on Earth? Who was the first sinner, and what did he do? How can a person realistically be born in sin? Can the tendency to commit crimes be passed from parent to child? If I behaved perfectly (kept all of God's laws in the Old Testament), would God let me into Heaven? Why is transformation a requirement if we are to live after we die, regardless of whether a person has committed sins or not? How much do you know about doors--both visible and invisible? Jesus, Why and How? includes 36 pages of detailed diagrams/illustrations scattered throughout the text, and they will help you visualize and understand the topics as I present them. After you finish reading this book, you'll be able to definitively answer ALL of the questions above. However, be warned--if you are not a Christian, you will never again be able to say, "No one told me."
