Through the eyes of the author, we saw a glimpse of real human 20th century frontier woman, who captivated the audience with her adventures, wealth, hardship, marriages and romances, and zest for living. Undoubtedly she was courageous despite her trials and tribulations. Born to family of wealth in England, circummstances changed the life of Jessie, who was flexible and adaptable to a new life in another country, America. Destined with no wealth, she went to work to survive.
Jessie, the Story of a Genteel Lady in Frontier Alaska

A fictionalized account of a proper Englishwoman pioneering in Eagle, Alaska during the first half of the 1900s. A delightful story of Jessica Fox Mather who settles in a new environment of gold mines and rough living. The character is well-defined, and for the most part, full of optimism and acceptance of her place in life. Except for a few abrupt spots, the pace is even. The details are interesting, especially the contrast between English living and gold mining experiences. Scattered black and white photographs enhance the text. Readers will enjoy this entertaining book of early Alaska living. Submitted by: Nancy Warren Ferrell National SCBWI Reviewer

Jessie is a fascinating story, exquisitely told. I thoroughly enjoyed reliving Jessie's life through her eyes as she left a life of riches and was plunged into a life of hardship. I highly recommend this read!
