Jeremy Lee and the Vanishing Seconds

Jeremy Lee is an ordinary teenager until he begins losing time-vanishing for a second or more, only to reappear disoriented with no memory of what happened. His friend Ninna reveals she has experienced the same phenomenon: "the Seconds," strange cracks in reality where something watches from the dark. Soon their other friend Logan is pulled into it as well, forming a trio bound by the terrifying slips.

The more they investigate, the more they uncover a pattern-the vanishings always come in threes, and each slip brings them closer to something monstrous. Shadows peel off walls, reflections move on their own, and distorted doubles of themselves-called echoes-try to replace them. At times, Jeremy cannot tell if his friends are real or impostors.

Ninna eventually admits a devastating secret: during a past slip, she left behind a part of herself in the Seconds. That abandoned version has found a way back, angry and hungry to be whole again. The group realizes they are caught in a repeating cycle, one that others before them have faced and failed to escape.

Their search leads them to Ivy Calder, a woman who encountered the Seconds decades earlier. In her abandoned house, they discover a leather-bound ledger marked with three interlocking circles. The ledger writes names into its pages-including Jeremy, Ninna, and Logan-and binds them to the cycle of vanishing. It offers only grim choices: Ledger binds. Ledger frees. Choose one. Binding means survival under its rules; freeing means obliteration. Passing it on simply dooms someone else.

As reality collapses around them-reflections breaking free, echoes walking in daylight, entire houses turning into traps-they are forced to confront Ivy's ghost and the truth: there is no clean escape. The Seconds are a debt, and debts must be paid.

The novel builds to a tense climax of betrayal, blurred identities, and impossible choices. Jeremy struggles with whether Ninna is still herself or an echo wearing her skin. Logan's loyalty is tested as his own reflection hunts him. The group realizes that the only way forward is to face the ledger and make a choice that could either bind them to the curse forever... or erase them completely.
