Drawing extensively on the published writings and presentations of Australian biologist Jeremy Griffith, FIX THE WORLD founding members Damon Isherwood and Fiona Cullen-Ward have set out to explain the significance of a life devoted to humanity's most important and difficult frontier: understanding and resolving the human condition-the underlying issue in all human life of our species' extraordinary capacity for what has been called 'good' and 'evil'.
What distinguishes Jeremy's life and work is his capacity to confront the human condition directly-a subject humanity, including science, has historically found extraordinarily difficult to face and understand. From an early age, Jeremy made this problem the central focus of his life, ultimately developing the redeeming, reconciling and rehabilitating biological explanation for it.
This book is divided into three sections. The first is a brief biography of Jeremy's life. Sections 2 and 3 then elaborate on the significance of that life and achievement: Section 2 explains why the human condition has been the all-important problem for the human race to solve, why virtually all humans, including scientists, have lived in such mortal fear and denial of the issue that its solution couldn't be found, how Jeremy had to work outside the prevailing human-condition-avoiding scientific framework in order to find the human-race-redeeming, reconciling and rehabilitating biological understanding of the human condition-the greatest breakthrough in human history-and how that understanding finally makes fixing the world possible. Section 3 then returns to Jeremy himself, explaining why he was able to confront and solve this most difficult of all human problems, the formative influences that gave him the exceptional soundness, security and motivation to do so, and what all this reveals about the significance of his life and achievement.
