Jeremiah: Fire Shut Up in My Bones: The Weeping Prophet Who Kept Preaching
He was called before he was formed, and for forty years he preached to a nation determined not to listen. Jeremiah watched the people he loved walk straight into the fire he had begged them to avoid. He was beaten, locked in the stocks, lowered into a cistern of mud, and finally dragged into Egypt against his own counsel - and still he would not stop speaking. When he tried to fall silent, he found the word of God was like a fire shut up in his bones, and he could not hold it in.
Jeremiah is not Scripture's portrait of successful ministry. He is its proof that faithfulness and visible fruit are not the same gift.
This book follows him from the womb to the fire in his bones, from the scroll a king burned in the fireplace to the new covenant God promised to write on the human heart instead of on stone. It refuses to sentimentalize the weeping prophet or to tidy up his laments. Instead, it names plainly what faithful ministry to a stiff-necked people costs - the toll it takes on the servant who carries the Word, and on the family that carries it home with him.
For every believer who has obeyed God and seen no harvest, for every pastor tempted to measure the call by its results, and for anyone who has ever felt the fire and wanted to quit, Jeremiah offers a companion who understands - and a God whose faithfulness outlasts the silence.
