She ran, with her baby cradled to her chest, through a thick forest. Heavy mist, like clouds, rose from the ground, obscuring the forest floor covered with thick vines making her stumble every now and then. Merciless branches, with their thorns, snagged at her clothes and tore open her skin. She absorbed every cry of pain, for the baby she held in her arms.

Three days ago, she'd been a happy mother. Everything was right with the world till the darkness had descended from the skies. It had enveloped everything like a thick blanket, suffocating the life under it. Amidst that darkness, the glow from the baby's chest had kept her and her husband safe. It had pushed away the darkness but had alerted the unseen forces that breathed in it.
