Jehu: Regicide

Chariot commander Jehu is anointed king of Israel to strike down the House of Ahab. This fictional narrative, based on the Biblical account from II Kings 9 and 10, recounts Jehu's rebellion against the Kingdom of Israel's House of Ahab from Jehu's early years as a chariot commander under Kings Ahab, Ahaziah and Joram, through his anointing by a prophet of the school of Elisha and his assault against the royal house of Israel, in the voices of Jehu, King Ethbaal I of Tyre, Queen Jezebel, King Ahab, the prophets Elijah and Elisha, Jehonadab, Jezebel's daughter Queen Athaliah and granddaughter Jehosheba, High Priest Jehoiada, King Joram of Israel and others. The union of Phoenician princess Jezebel and Israel's heir to the throne Ahab united the sea power of Tyre and Sidon with the land power of King Omri's domain of Israel, a union which was being extended into Israel's sister kingdom of Judah with the union of Ahab and Jezebel's daughter Athaliah with Judah's heir to the throne Jehoram. The melding of Phoenicia, Israel and Judah was reaching its tipping point when Jehu was anointed King of Israel while Israel's and Judah's kings were still on their thrones. The only Biblical description of Jehu, 'he drives like a maniac,' aptly describes chariot commander Jehu's personality and headlong execution of his anointing. The narrative includes several fictional accounts of dialogues between Jehu, the prophets Elijah and Elisha, Jehonadab and palace administrator Obadiah as the prophets and man who would be king struggle with the purpose of the two sister kingdoms of Israel and Judah amidst numerous, seemingly identical warring kingdoms. Before, during and after Jehu's rebellion, Queen Jezebel of Israel, her daughter Queen Athaliah of Judah, and Athaliah's daughter Jehosheba conspire together and against each other to advance their competing visions for their kingdoms.
