Sheryl and her family live on the gulf coast. They enjoy a beautiful view and the pleasant temperatures that are a year-round attraction for the area. When their home and safety are threatened by a brewing storm, they are forced to seek the safety of a shelter.This is a fictional adaptation of the true story of a hurricane that hit the Mississippi gulf coast in 1947. It is intended for grades five through seven. It can be used by teachers using the Whole Language philosophy (thematic units in science) and by parents to explain the necessity for moving to a safe location when a hurricane is predicted to move inland.
