Alicia's memoir reflects frankly on her life. She grew up in the East End during the 1930s. She was an evacuee and vividly recounts her traumatic experiences and how they coloured her perception of life. At the end of the war her family settled in Hemel Hempstead where she married, had three children, and was constantly balancing the demands of family life with work. Alicia is incredibly resourceful and has had wide-ranging careers in hairdressing, catering, and nursing to mention but a few. She describes them all with enthusiasm and humour. Her adventures continue well into retirement and include upping sticks and moving to Cyprus.
