In these stories, children, parents, and teachers will experience the joy of following a young boy named JAX and his pet chicken, SHIVERS, on a truly fantastic adventure. Along the way, young readers and listeners will creatively act out the movements, skills, and physical activities described in the text.
Each story focuses on one or two dimensions of children's motor development, such as locomotion, object manipulation, balance, and bofy control. These stories offer rich and entertaining opportunities for children to read, laugh, be active, and develop their motor skills all at once.
BOOK I
JAX AND SHIVERS AND THE WILD CHICKENS OF THE DESERT
Jax and his fearless (and easily annoyed) pet chicken, Shivers, stumble into an unexpected adventure when they investigate a mysterious hole in the woods behind their house.
The pair tumble into a hidden underground world ruled by the secretive and hostile Wild Chickens of the Desert, who capture them and declare that no human may ever leave their domain.
BOOK II
JAX AND SHIVERS AND THE PLANET OF THE OCTOPICKENS
Always picked last because of his clumsiness, Jax doubts his own abilities until a badly aimed kick sends him and his pet chicken, Shivers, tumbling into another world. Transported to the Planet of the Octopickens, Jax meets extraordinary chicken-octopus creatures whose many arms make them masters of throwing, catching, and juggling.
