despite the other reviews

I read all the negative reviews and still bought the book. And as a student of JSP, I'm glad I did because I found it conceptually good and well written. And more importantly, easy to understand. It has definately given me a greater knowledge base of JSP.

Perfect for beginners with an itch to learn JSP

You know how acrobats make their stunts look so easy? That's what the author has done with this book. The only difference being that you actually learn the technology. This book unfolds the use of JSP and teaches you the basics, which sets it apart when put upon a shelf with a dozen other technology books. Pick it up, flip through it and you actually find something you understand. I'd say its a must have for students and I look forward to reading more books from this author.

Errors Not an oversite

I have many of the "from scratch" books. Every one of them has so called errors in syntax (smirk). I have concluded that they were placed there on purpose. First, the errors are consistant in there placement and repetition. Second, the actual valid 'sintax' or values are explained preceding the supposed error. Third, the author guarantees that the student is paying attention (i.e. Thinking!) and not rotely typing in code he/she has no concept of. Great book for learning! But obviously, some people don't get the joke.

Java Server Pages from scratch

I found the book to cover JSPs in quite a bit of depth. Addressed was the question of when or why to use JSPs instead of servlets. I found the examples quite informative. There are several design approaches, including their examples, that I found to be relevant to project I am working on. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand JSPs.
