The best book I have ever read, including the Bible
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 21 years ago
Ladies and gentlemen, Never in the course of history has someone contributed in such a significant manner to the furthering of mankind. Mr. Jardin has outdone even Matthew, Mark, Luke and John in thrusting himself into the limelight as a leader of all humanity. With a clever combination of technical "boo-boos" interspersed with a collage of typographical errors, Mr. Jardin has kept apace with if not surpassed such literary and scientific talents as Hawthorne, Ibsen, Arthur C. Clarke, Steven Hawking and Snoop Doggy Dog. Java is truly the world's language; "C.J." has found new and exciting interpretations into not only the Java programming language but also the English "speaking" language. Had I more resources, I would purchase all available remaining copies; had I more ability, I would praise Mr. Jardin in even loftier terms. And Mr. Jardin can use all of your help -- he is currently a down-and-out developer living on the streets of downtown San Diego writing code for food. Please give back to Cary, if for no other reason than for all that he has given to us in this timeless, never-ending book for the ages, destined to outpace the Bible as the most influential work in existence today.- Zorkon

I'm professional Java tutor and Sun Certified Programmer. I did not read Mr. Jardin's book to get prepared for exam. I just read it later when my students asked me for good quiz and asked me about my opinion of Mr. Jardin's book. So:- mostly students (and people generaly) are lazy; they tend to find the list of questions and answers instead of studying the programming. They do not want to spend the time for studying and expect the certificate to come like one-two-three. That's wrong. If you really want to be Java programmer it is supposed you to read at least three books written by people with different mind then to write the tons of real Java code. If you did not - DO NOT EXPECT ANY QUIZ TO HELP YOU.- Mr. Jardin's book is NOT a Java guide. But even if you really know Java you must know WHAT KIND OF QUESTIONS TO EXPECT at sertification test. For instance: shift operators are not actively used; but should you expect the questions about them or not ? The answer you can find from Mr. Jardin's book is - yes. Or: being at Java conference I found out that only 20% percent of programmers use (and are experienced with) layout managers. Of course you can use absolute positioning. But will you be asked at exam of layout managers or not ? How do you know ? Mr. Jardin's book also answers this question as many others.- Unfortunately Mr. Jardin's books contains many mistakes. As many other books. As Java itself. As any software application. As software applications written by Mr. Jardin's critics. But if you are really Java programmer - it is not a problem to you. If you are not Java programmer - you can find of course mistakes-free book, read it then FAIL the test.- Anyone can bring his or her own opinion. But I smiled when I found among the critics the gentleman very proud of he works with Java (I identified him by his e-mail address) who asked in one of forums why his program which contains the call of the method 'System.out.printIn()' does not compile. After I posted the explanation and spelled letter by letter the correct method name ('println' not 'printIn') one week later he asked that question again. Now I know that before I read any review I must know first WHO POSTED THE EXACT REVIEW. Even if he is the unsatisfied customer. To make a valuable opinion he must be Java programmer first.
A great book!

I found this to be one of the most complete Java certification books available. I recommend this book -- I am a certified Java Programming instructor. The approach is fresh and original, a bit different from the "usually" text books of this genre. Two thumbs up for Cary Jardin. Buy this book!
The publisher and author should be ashamed!

This book is riddled with so many error that it is a complete waste of money. Obviously Que and the author don't give a damn about their readers and it appears that the author doesn't really know very much; I wonder what elementary school Mr. Jardin attends?SAVE YOUR MONEY & TIME: DON'T BUY THIS BOOK!
Well organized and helpful

I found this book to be a straight forward approach to studying for the Sun Java Certification exams, which is often uncommon in the current pleathora of Java texts on the market. The self-exams provided the necessary content for testing my Java aptitude. While the information can be overwhelming at times the book was well organized and allowed me to cocentrate on one area at a time. I have read other certification books and feel that this book provided the best coverage and approach.
