Janet and Peter started with an idea about alternating traditional gender roles with fun and relatable characters; Janet is a female dragon and Peter is a male unicorn. Through these characters the author subtly challenges long-held stereotypes and explains bullying in a way young children can understand. He shares his wisdom on how to resolve difficult conflicts, highlighting the importance of friendship, seeking the help of trusted adults, empathy and forgiveness. He extends his message, demonstrating that friendship is not limited to same-gendered peers. The values he has learned through story time and school life is something he would like to pass on to the readers of this story.
